Often people wonder why they need to pay a consulting fee to their cosmetic surgeon. During a consultation very often cosmetic surgeons don’t charge a dime and this gives rise to the ire in the minds of those that pay, what exactly did they pay for? Why did their doctor charge them money? Why didn’t the other surgeon charge? Aren’t free consultations always better? The answer to the last question can be something like this. There is no such thing as free lunches so free consultations wouldn’t do you any good. People hesitate paying because they feel anything free of charge must be better. But it isn’t so. But here is what you need to understand, if you pay nothing, you receive nothing valuable.
People often fail to recognize that ‘free consultation’ for Cosmetic Surgery is nothing but a high-pressured sales pitch. A professional consultation should be an educational experience, an enlightening opportunity for you and not a business transaction. It should function only for your advantage and to your improvement. According to Mark Sugar, the author of ‘A Guide to Choosing a Good Plastic Surgeon’, “Doctors usually charge a consultation fee for your first visit, which may be as much as $150 or more (but is applied against your surgery fees), but the amount of their initial consultation fee should not really play a role in deciding who you consult. After all, you will presumably be spending thousands of dollars on surgery which could cost many more thousands to try to correct elsewhere if done poorly, so an extra two or three hundred dollars in consultation fees should not be a basis for narrowing the field. I thought I was saving money by consulting with six doctors who charged no initial fee, but in hindsight realize that the best doctor was the seventh one who charged a $75 fee (he ended up correcting part of my botched surgery). I feel that doctors who charge no consultation fee use it as a sales tool to attract clients while those that charge a fee may be relying more on their reputations.”
Apart from not making the whole exercise a business transaction, consultation fees ensures, that doctors feel that they have been compensated for their time and expertise, just like any other highly-trained professional would be. Having a consult fee also ensures that a prospective patient is serious about having the procedure, which makes the consultation a far more productive experience. At Allure MedSpa we do charge a consultation fees but we make sure that a patient is not only assured of the best treatment, but they are also under the most capable hands. The amount you pay will benefit you in the long run and would only help us, help you.
